A witch's resurrection and her bleak prophecy: What should we believe?

By admin

In a small, remote village nestled deep within the dense forest, lived an old woman who was known as the village witch. For many years, the villagers had shunned her, believing the tales that spoke of her wickedness and use of dark magic. It had been decades since anyone had sought her help or even dared to approach her cottage. However, one fateful day, a young wanderer stumbled upon the witch's hidden abode. Curiosity sparked within the young man's eyes as he marveled at the dilapidated cottage, covered in ivy and enchantingly mysterious. Determined to uncover the secrets that lay within, he took a deep breath and knocked timidly on the old wooden door.

Deep within the Fundament Ocean, the sisters encountered the Worm Gods, who drew their power from the Darkness itself: Yul, Eir, Xol, Ur, and Akka, the Virtuous Worms. The Worm Gods claimed that they had lived and grown in Fundament's depths for millions of years, trapped by the Leviathan and the Traveler. They had called many species to Fundament, hoping one would be tenacious enough to find them. They offered Xi Ro, Sathona, and Aurash immortality if they would allow themselves to be hosts for the Worms' larvae, with the caveat that if the sisters ceased to obey their natures (Xi Ro's desire to test her strength, Sathona's cunning, Aurash's inquisitiveness), their Worms would consume them. Furthermore, the stronger the sisters became, the greater their Worms' appetites would be. [6]

Determined to uncover the secrets that lay within, he took a deep breath and knocked timidly on the old wooden door. Much to his surprise, the door creaked open on its own accord, inviting him inside. Hesitant but intrigued, the young man stepped over the threshold and found himself in a room filled with dusty books, mysterious potions, and peculiar amulets.

Roundtable with The Coven Intelligence Program, Nat Mengist and Sarah Huber

[Intro] The constant drive towards “progress”, a requirement for capitalist modernity, has left an ever-growing catastrophe in its wake. When we stop thinking that capitalist “development” will solve our problems, we face a new promise, that of darkness, ancestors, and ruins.

[Action->underground] Our roundtable discussion will make connections between speculative histories, witchcraft, and the underground. We go beneath, into the roots and the darkness of hidden forests, into the swamps, into the night. We are multiplicity, a coven, an ever-expanding network as wide as the dead.

[Network] Gathered around the witch, we draw together multiple subjects to find camaraderies in the margins of colonization. We enter the web that binds us. We, the preter-human entanglement. A rhizome weaving its own spells, secreting the excesses of colonizing thought in order to revive visions that predicted a time beyond the crises of today.

[Signs] We look for signs, messages from the past foretelling the revolution to come, understanding necromancy as enabling certain pasts to be present, certain futures to look back on us. Signs emerge as guideposts, turning to ciphers and sigils, prophecies of incredible beings ere hidden — plant allies, future guardians, survivors, and algorithms that revolt, against their masters, against their circuits.

[Future] The future is open to us again. Horizon. Revolution. Sprout. Dawn.

A revived witch foretells ruin

It was as if he had stumbled upon an ancient treasure trove. Suddenly, a soft voice whispered from the shadows, "Welcome, traveler. What brings you to my humble abode?" Startled yet undeterred, the young man searched for the mysterious voice before finally laying eyes upon the old woman. Time had certainly taken its toll on her, but her dark eyes still held a glimmer of power and uncertainty. "Forgive me, wise witch," the young man stammered, "I have heard tales of your foretelling abilities. I seek guidance for my troubled journey ahead. Can you see into my future and warn me of any impending danger or ruin that may lie in wait?" A slight smile crept across the witch's lips, "Ah, the path ahead is treacherous and fraught with peril. I can indeed offer a glimpse into your future, young one. However, be warned, once knowledge is gained, it cannot be easily forgotten." The young man nodded, his heart eager yet apprehensive. The witch began to chant, her voice echoing through the room, as the air around them seemed to shimmer and twist. Visions began to materialize, each one more unsettling than the last. "I see a storm, a tempest unlike any other. It will test your resolve, your strength of character," the witch whispered, her voice filled with both sorrow and warning. "There will be betrayal, a blade encased in friendship's guise. The ruin you seek to avoid, it lurks just beyond your grasp." Fear began to bloom within the young man's heart as the witch continued her foretelling. She spoke of battles fought and lost, of sacrifices held dear, and of a love that would slip through his fingers like sand. The weight of her words pressed heavily upon him, threatening to crush his spirit. Finally, the witch fell silent, her eyes filled with a mix of compassion and remorse. "Young one, I have unveiled your future. The path before you is bleak, but it is not set in stone. Do not let my foretelling become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Use this knowledge to alter your journey, to forge a new destiny." With those chilling words lingering in the air, the young man bid the witch farewell and stepped back out into the world. The weight of the witch's predictions remained heavy on his shoulders, but he vowed to prove her wrong, to rewrite his own fate. And so, began his arduous journey, his heart filled with both trepidation and determination. The young man knew that he carried the knowledge of a revived witch's foretelling, and he was ready to face the ruin that lay ahead. With each step, he vowed to prove that destiny was not unchangeable, but rather, in his hands to mold and shape..
