My personal experience at the Cambridge location was very positive, and I found the staff very warm and welcoming. As a parent, I know we often have questions about toys and baby gear, and I found Magic Beans’ staff very knowledgable and willing to answer all my questions. They have all the top brands available for infants and young children alike, which makes Magic Beans not just a great spot to find and purchase gear for your baby, but also a great shop to find unique gifts for birthdays and holidays.
It’s not overly surprising that the staff is friendly and ready to answer questions given that it was founded by parents of three, husband and wife team Eli and Sheri, specifically to function as a store where parents can come to be educated on the best baby gear and children’s toys. Magic Beans has earned a remarkable reputation in the Boston community as a store that makes kids’ lives more fun and parents’ lives easier (wins all-around!). A team of exceptional, knowledgeable, and friendly staff is available to work with families and provide a level of customer service you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

CouCou, inspired by the French word for “peek-a-boo,” has committed themselves to keeping childhood wonder and imagination alive in children and adults alike. CouCou offers a vast selection of beautifully curated products for young children in Boston’s South End. From clothing and fashion to toys and gifts, Boston baby store CouCou has it all!
One of the things I like about CouCou is that the shop itself is very family-friendly. It’s a rare occasion that I’m out of the house without kids these days (although if you’re still expecting your first, perhaps this isn’t true for you), so it’s always nice when stores are set up with parents and kids in mind. CouCou goes the extra mile in this regard, having set up a comfortable changing area (and stocked it with changing essentials!) as well as a nursing area for mothers to breastfeed their babies with some privacy.
CouCou has a boutique feel, carrying quite a variety of infant, toddler, and child clothing from thoughtfully curated brands like Rylee + Cru, Misha & Puff, and Quincy Mae (among a couple dozen others). Many of the brands are European, although CouCou carries selects products from all over the world. I get the sense that the family that runs this small, local business are conscientious world citizens, as they donate a percentage of all profits to UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency).
If you’re not looking for clothing, you’ll find shelves stocked with puzzles, craft supplies and kits, books, and a large selection of toys. As you might expect from a Boston baby boutique, the toys at CouCou are thoughtfully selected to become family heirlooms. Most are made out of wood or fabric, and all are non-toxic. They have a large selection of dolls, and I really appreciate that the dolls represent racial diversity and many of them are anatomically correct.

I was really excited to try out the Magic Bean Cambridge cafe after hearing so much hype about it, but I have to say, I was extremely disappointed. The coffee was overpriced and tasted bland. The service was slow and the staff seemed disinterested in providing a good experience. The atmosphere was also lacking, with uncomfortable seating and a lack of ambiance. Overall, I would not recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a quality coffee experience.

The overall experience was a disappointment, and I would not visit this cafe again.
