Rising Above: How I Transcended My Curse

By admin

My curse live Living with a curse is not something that anyone would choose for themselves. It is a burden that weighs heavily on the individual, casting a shadow over every aspect of their life. This curse may manifest in different ways for different people, but the common thread is that it brings about pain, suffering, and a sense of helplessness. For me, my curse is the constant battle with anxiety. It is an invisible force that lurks within me, always ready to pounce on any moment of happiness or peace. It robs me of the ability to fully enjoy life, always casting doubt and fear onto even the simplest of tasks.

KE frontman Howard Jones sings here about a love that has left him, and his curse is that he cannot be with her. The video, directed by Lex Halaby, plays out a rather mystical storyline, but the band's guitarist, Adam Dutkiewicz, has a much more grounded interpretation of the song. "That's just about chicks," he said in his Songfacts interview. "A lot of Howard's songs are about girls. It's always a topic guys can relate to."

  • David from Texas This is a great website! I always thought there was a website like this but I barely looked for it today. Nice. This is a great underrated song. "There is love, burning to find you" makes me think of me and my wife and how while my love for her isn't always there but I stay with her and let the possibility of true love burn to find her again one day.

Eden's Curse - Live With The Curse - 2CD Jewelcase

After nine years of EDEN’S CURSE band history the multinational Hard Rock/Melodic Metal band now presents their first ever Live album "Live With The Curse".

With four fantastic and widely celebrated studio albums already under their belts, the thought of releasing a Live album was never far from the mind, but the main source of inspiration came from their ardent fan base. The culmination was no more evident than after the last night of the ‘Symphony Of Sin UK Tour’’ in London. They band came off stage on such a high and the feedback and comments coupled with fan pressure to re-record the older material with Nikola singing made them certain that the time was right!
So planning began for the recording of the first ever EDEN’S CURSE Live album and anyone who knows the band will be aware of their high standards that they set for everything that they do - ‘Live With The Curse’ is no exception! Recording took place on November 28 th 2014 at an EDEN’S CURSE headlining show at The Classic Grand in Glasgow.

How I wrote My Curse, by Killswitch Engage's Adam D

Their 2006 album, As Daylight Dies, was a landmark release for Killswitch Engage. Not only did its special edition spawn a cover of Dio’s Holy Diver that’s gone on to become a staple of the band’s live repertoire, but lead single My Curse had an even greater impact, with then-vocalist Howard Jones’ tale of heartache striking a chord with metal fans the world over.

Here, guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz talks us through My Curse’s inception, chronicling the somewhat tumultuous creation of the song’s lyrics, and why he’s still happy to play it every night over a decade since its release…

“It’s fun to be talking about My Curse, because it all happened so long ago. I know for a fact that, musically, I wrote that entire song, and the writing of it was a pretty normal process: I got my laptop going, started out with the initial riff, and then I think the first verse was what I wrote next, and it went from there. That process of starting out with a riff and building from that point is usually how I work. One riff led to another, and then I took the finished product to the rest of the band. They liked it, so we went ahead with things in a very democratic way – it’s never been the case in our band that one of us can be like, ‘I think this song is great and we’re recording it no matter what.’ The approval of everyone is always required.

“In terms of the music, My Curse was one of the easiest songs we’ve ever written – we’ve had much harder times with other songs. Often we’ll have the spine of a track but some of us won’t like certain bits, so then we chop it apart and the process goes on and on. I always feel like the songs that come together the quickest are the ones that are the easiest to listen to because they just feel right from the beginning. There’s definitely something to be said for that.

“Once we got into the studio to record it was largely business as usual, but My Curse was one for which Howard wrote the lyrics, and the idea he started with was great. He loves singing about girls, and that’s what the song is about, really. I tried to offer my input to Howard regarding the lyrics because although the initial idea was good, I never really liked the chorus – I thought it could be hookier. We actually got into a spat about it in the studio: Howard insisted the lyrics were perfect and he didn’t want to change anything, but I thought they needed more impact – the words just weren’t doing it for me. We were going around in circles with the lyrics but they never changed, so what you have with My Curse is Howard’s original idea that he refused to alter, despite my protestations. But a bunch of people liked it, so I guess I was fucking wrong! That disagreement between us was the only real issue we came across when putting the song together.

“I don’t remember much about making the video other than that it had something to do with a book. As a band we don’t really like being in our videos; it’s not much fun, and performance videos are so daft, anyway. It’s a band in a room and a director going, ‘Pretend you’re rocking out!’ It’s so lame and stupid. We wanted to keep the performance side to the My Curse video to a minimum and focus more on the storyline and the theme of love that’s being expressed in the lyrics. Like with all of our videos, we wanted to keep out of the limelight as much as possible!

“I still enjoy playing My Curse live – as long as there’s a crowd reaction, I’m into it. Obviously, given its popularity, we’ve played it at every show since it was released, so I’ve definitely played it enough, but if people keep loving it the way they do, we’ll keep performing it. I feel like My Curse is a good representation of everything we’ve done throughout our career: it’s got some singing, some yelling… but I guess the one thing I do wish is that we were best known for something more metal. But hey, what are you gonna do? It’s a popular song for a reason, and if My Curse is the track we’re remembered for, then so be it.

“Any time a song of ours does well like that it blows me away. It’s nice to see people latching on to our music, but I never really understood why people liked the lyrics and chorus of My Curse so much because it’s nothing amazing to me. That being said, it’s a simple message that’s being portrayed, so I guess that helps people relate to it. What do I know, really? I don’t know shit!”

The freshly crowned Top 10 charting band XANDRIA recently returned with a new lineup and their new studio album The Wonders Still Awaiting. The band now release a new video for “My Curse Is My Redemption” in celebration of the upcoming tour with label mates, Dutch Symphonic heavyweights DELAIN.

Watch “My Curse Is My Redemption” below.

XANDRIA on “My Curse Is My Redemption”:

“As many of you Xandria fans have named this song as one of your favorites from the new album, we decided to make a video for it – with beautiful pictures underlining the meaning of the lyrics:
Music, art, as something that can derive from painful experiences, and then not only heal you, but also others. It is a wonderful gift for us all then.

Another musical colour from the rich palette of our album “The Wonders Still Awaiting”, on which each song has its very own identity and its own atmosphere. This one is symphonic for sure, but also has some straight rock vibes, and a certain 80’s flavour to it. It is melancholic but also has a hopeful twist, in both the music and the lyrics.”

We noticed that it is a wonderful song to play live – and we are looking forward to play that song for you on the upcoming tour!”

XANDRIA on “Ghosts” and the new album:
“Ghosts actually started as a reminiscence to good old Swedish melodic death metal and with that archetypical guitar riff that you hear right in the beginning.

And then we integrated it into our XANDRIA soundscape with lots of film score atmosphere and big choirs, because it was exciting to mix these elements and do our own thing with it (still we kept the working title “Swedish Fire” for a long time…).

It is a good example for how diverse the new album will be and how many different influences we were putting into it. We had a lot of things – little musical dreams – in our minds and hearts that we wanted to realize, and along with what you already heard in the first two new songs this is just one of them. There will be quite some more surprises coming…”

It robs me of the ability to fully enjoy life, always casting doubt and fear onto even the simplest of tasks. On the surface, I may appear to be living a normal life. I have a job, friends, and family who care about me.

My curse live

But underneath that facade is a constant struggle to keep the anxiety at bay. It is a daily battle to quiet the racing thoughts in my mind, to push through the overwhelming fear and panic that threatens to consume me. Living with a curse means that simple tasks become herculean challenges. Something as mundane as leaving the house can feel like an insurmountable feat. The fear of the unknown, the what-ifs, can be paralyzing. And even when I do manage to push past those fears, the anxiety is always there, lurking in the background, ready to rear its ugly head at any moment. But despite the constant presence of my curse, I refuse to let it define me. I have learned to live with the fear and the doubt, to push through the anxiety and find moments of joy and peace. It is not easy, and there are days when it feels impossible. But I am determined to not let this curse rule my life. Living with a curse is a constant battle, but it has made me stronger. It has forced me to confront my fears head-on, to push past my comfort zones, and to find the strength within myself to keep going. It has taught me resilience and perseverance, and has shown me that I am capable of so much more than my anxiety would have me believe. So, while my curse may live within me, I refuse to let it consume me. I will continue to fight against it, to find moments of joy and peace amidst the chaos. I will not let this curse define me, but instead, I will use it as a catalyst for growth and self-discovery. My curse may live, but so do I..

Reviews for "Breaking the Silence: Sharing My Curse Live"

1. Tom - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the live performance of "My Curse". The vocals were completely off and it seemed like the band was just going through the motions. The energy they usually bring to their songs was sorely lacking, and it felt like they were just going through the motions. I've seen this band live before and they've always been amazing, so it was really disappointing to see them give such a lackluster performance.
2. Emma - 1 star - I was really excited to see "My Curse" performed live, but it was a total letdown. The singer's voice was strained and he couldn't hit the high notes, which really took away from the power of the song. The band's performance overall was lackluster and it felt like they were just going through the motions. I've heard much better live performances from this band, so I was really disappointed with this one.
3. Mike - 2 stars - "My Curse" is one of my favorite songs, and I was really looking forward to hearing it live. However, the live performance just didn't do it justice. The vocals were flat and lacked the power and emotion that the song deserves. The band seemed disinterested on stage and it showed in their performance. Overall, I was really let down by this live rendition of "My Curse".
4. Sarah - 2 stars - I have always loved "My Curse" and have been a fan of this band for years, but their live performance of the song left much to be desired. The energy that I love about this song was completely missing, and it felt like the band was just going through the motions. The vocals were also not as strong as I expected, and it was disappointing to hear one of my favorite songs performed in such a lackluster manner. I hope they put more effort into their live performances in the future.
5. John - 1 star - I was really excited to finally see this band live, but their performance of "My Curse" was a major disappointment. The vocals were off-key and the singer seemed to struggle with hitting the right notes. The band's overall performance lacked energy and enthusiasm, and it was honestly one of the worst live performances I have ever seen. I expected so much more from this band, and it's a shame that they couldn't deliver a better performance of "My Curse".
