The Magic Wizard Money Gang is a group of sorcerers who use their magical powers to pursue wealth and power. They are known for their cunning and deceitful tactics, often using illusions and trickery to fool both their enemies and their allies. The gang operates in the shadows, taking advantage of unsuspecting victims and manipulating their desires for personal gain. Each member of the gang possesses unique magical abilities, which they use both individually and collectively to further their goals. Some are skilled in the art of illusion, able to create lifelike images and alter perceptions at will. Others have the power to manipulate elements such as fire, water, and earth, using them to their advantage during heists or battles.

The gang's leader, known simply as the Wizard, is a master of all forms of magic. He uses his vast knowledge and experience to guide his followers and ensure their success.

The 5e Wizards have an interesting take on specializations, with each one offering a number of distinct special abilities and benefits. What in your opinion are the strongest and weakest of these?

Abjuration and Divination are the strongest and the coolest. Evocation is disappointing, but it's sculpt spells ability is pretty useful. I just wish it had something that omphed up evocation spells, like a maximise/empower on the fly 2/day type ability.

I can't quite figure out if Necromancy is any good this time around. In prior editions it hasn't been, but with their features the new version of animate dead seems like a solid option. I'm not sure if the rest of their spell list is that great though, and the animate dead stuff doesn't scale nearly as well into high levels as the abjuration and divination perks. Still, if I wanted to play a summoner type I might consider necromancy over conjuration. The conjuration benefits are nice, but the actual summoning spells don't really blow me away.

Enchantment seems pretty solid. Really nice out of combat utility.

As a school, Necromancy sucks but they do have one good spell, Animate Dead. So I think I may play a Diviner or Transmuter at some point refluffed as a Necromancer.

I agree that abjuration and divination are amazing, but I would put enchantment right up there with them. The one-attempt-per-target-but-otherwise-at-will charm ability is crazypants. In a good way. The other abilities are strong too.

I'm not sure animate dead is that great if you aren't a necromancer. The skeletons end up really fragile, and outfitting them with bows will end up costing you close to what hirelings would anyway.
It seems like the options are:
Be a necromancer, in which case animate dead is a pretty amazing spell, but your specialization spell list and other abilities are otherwise fairly underwhelming
or
Don't be a necromancer, in which case you get a bunch of other stuff thats probably better than necromancy overall, but animate dead will be just ok

It feels a little odd for so much of the power of a specialization to be tied up in a single spell.

To a lesser extent I feel the same way about conjuration. In prior editions with summon monster options at nearly every level, their abilities would be outstanding. As it is, I feel like they just don't apply to that many spells, and the ones they do apply to aren't worth giving up the benefits of other specializations

Mistwell states my thoughts on Diviner v Evocation well.

The Wizard is highly intelligent and strategic, always planning his next move and staying one step ahead of his adversaries. Despite their nefarious intentions, the gang members are not inherently evil. They simply believe that their magical abilities give them an advantage in acquiring wealth and power. Some of them were once innocent individuals who were corrupted by the allure of magic and its potential for personal gain. Others joined the gang out of desperation, seeing no other way to survive in a world that had abandoned them. The gang operates primarily in secret, hiding their true identities behind aliases and disguises. They are known for committing grand heists, stealing valuable artifacts and treasures from well-guarded locations. Their ability to use magic makes them nearly unstoppable, as they can easily outwit and defeat anyone who stands in their way. However, the Magic Wizard Money Gang is not invincible. There are those who oppose the gang's actions and seek to stop them. These individuals are often skilled hunters or powerful sorcerers themselves, dedicating their lives to bringing down the gang and restoring justice. The Magic Wizard Money Gang serves as a reminder that power and wealth, when obtained through deceit and manipulation, can corrupt even the most well-intentioned individuals. Their story is a cautionary tale of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the consequences that come with it..
