It features a variety of shows, lectures, workshops, and competitions that showcase the latest trends and techniques in magic. Renowned magicians from across the globe gather in Blackpool to showcase their skills and share their knowledge with fellow magicians. One of the highlights of the convention is the Gala Show, where some of the world's most talented magicians perform their most awe-inspiring acts.

Blackpool magic

Hi all. I have never attended BMC but have always wanted to. It is quite a distance from me and am now thinking of attending just one day,the Friday. To get the best from it I am thinking of travelling up on the Thursday and returning home either Friday night or Saturday morning. I am seeking advise from those who have been before. What time Friday would it start and finish and if I don't attend the gala would there be anything to do in the evening (if so I would go home Saturday but if not probably the Friday). Many thanks?

Hi does anybody know how well dealer wise this years Blackpool will be attended due to the pandemic.
Also attendee wise as I have been going 25 years plus on the bounce except last year (as was cancelled, but have heard very little about attendance etc this year.
As I only do the magic Café and no other form of social media I would appreciate any info.
Thank you Gaz

Blackpool magic club have said "that like all similar events they will comply with HMUK Government,NHS England,Blackpool Council and Winter Gardens regulations and restrictions that could be in place by 2022. If restrictions and regulations are enforced by HMUK Government".

I'm hoping they make masks, passes and SD mandatory. Pretty irresponsible if they don't. It's people's lives that they're putting at risk if not.

Posted: Jan 11, 2022 11:13 pm

Just checkd. Masks and social distancing are mandatory according to winter gardens website. Good. https://www.wintergardensblackpool.co.uk/safe-and-sound

Let's hope covid passes are too.

It's just masks that are mandatory. Social distancing is written as encouraged.

So if anyone is caught without a mask and unable to prove they are exempt then they will be asked to wear one or leave?

Posted: Jan 11, 2022 11:21 pm

If the majority of people at Blackpool aren't wearing face masks as per the rules then I will simply leave and ask BMC for a full refund. If I choose to protect and others choose to infect then I'd rather be elsewhere. I know many others feel the same as me.

Posted: Jan 11, 2022 11:26 pm I have written to BMC about the matter and await their reply. Posted: Jan 11, 2022 11:31 pm

Their reply will probably be a lot different than what actually happens.
If you are worried don't bother going, I am thinking of missing my first one in 25 plus consecutive years just because of people who share your views if I'm honest.
I will never ever be dictated to by anyone especially the minority, unfortunately the media pandas for them.

Masks are not 100% effective at stopping transmission but this doesn't make them useless. But the main point of them is to help stop the wearer from spreading the virus. The vaccinated can still be an asymptomatic carrier and therefore it can continue to spread to those more vulnerable and the immunocompromised.

Posted: Jan 12, 2022 07:15 pm

The venue rules state masks must be worn. If people don't want to obey the rules then they shouldn't be allowed to stay. It's as simple as that.

Posted: Jan 13, 2022 10:43 pm

BMC just confirmed that masks will be mandatory unless the WG changes the rules, which is unlikely. Good.

Posted: Jan 15, 2022 03:26 am Which is fine 🙂 Posted: Jan 17, 2022 12:14 pm

BMC just confirmed that vaccine passports must be shown. Great that they are taking the safety of attendees seriously. Two thumbs up.

Posted: Jan 17, 2022 03:04 pm * Or proof of a negative test. Posted: Jan 17, 2022 03:24 pm

Yes, and verified by the NHS or other official body, not just a personal LFT. This is great news for the safety conscious.

Blackpool Magic

Every February, magicians from all over the world take over Blackpool for one weekend, for the World’s largest magic convention. It seems to get bigger every time, with close to 5,000 magicians this year!

This one was special. As soon as Lance Burton was announced, I booked my ticket! Seeing Lance on TV when I was a kid was the moment everything changed for me. Doves appeared from nowhere and flew to him on command, flashes of fire, all performed to music… and I knew that’s what I had to do. I was lucky to see him live in his Las Vegas show many times, including his last ever performance there in September 2010.

When the curtain went up in Blackpool on the opening day of the convention, the warmth from the audience was so welcoming and we enjoyed an evening with Lance and his friends. It was lovely to see him back on stage with all of the class and charm he become so well known for.

Mac King is Lance’s best friend since childhood, and one of the funniest and most talented magicians in his own right. Mac performed his show to a packed audience with the most incredible energy I’ve ever felt. The love for Mac in that room was overwhelming! He almost couldn’t be heard over the cheers and it made for an extremely memorable performance.

Arturo Brachetti’s full evening show was another event I was really excited about. I first saw Arturo in London’s West End back in 2009 and have been a huge fan ever since. A true artist in every sense of the word, Arturo is in a league of his own in the world of ‘quick-change’, with his character, personality and set changing together with his costumes. His new show ‘Solo’ combines spectacular quick-change with other variety skills, including shadowgraphy, sand art and of course magic interwoven throughout. Arturo needs to be seen live to be believed, and I hear he may be returning to the UK soon for a run of public performances, so if you have an opportunity to see him, go! Here’s a taste of what you’ll experience:

Richard Wiseman gave a brilliant ‘talk’ on séances. After a handful of unsuspecting volunteers were sent to participate in a live séance, we were taken behind the scenes thanks to a live, infrared camera feed. The psychic (played brilliantly by Danny Buckler) was wearing a secret earpiece so Richard could communicate with him! Hilarity ensued and it was fascinating to see some ‘genuine’ psychic tricks used and the impact they had on the participants.

Marko Karvo, the best animal act, closed the convention. There is a lot of love from magicians for Marko and his immaculate act, and another first for me was hearing the audience clapping along in time with the music after his first dove appeared! Finishing with a well-deserved standing ovation, it was great to see Marko back on stage at the theatre where he became World Champion back in 2012.

My highlight however, was what happened just before Marko’s performance: a surprise introduction from Lance Burton. Two of my biggest inspirations and a theatre full of respect, it’s a moment I will never forget. Together with another great magician, Phil Hitchcock, we managed to all get together for the first time, just before that final performance of the convention. I still can’t believe that these heroes have become friends :)

In addition to the Gala Show, the convention also offers a wide range of lectures and workshops where magicians can learn and improve their skills. These sessions cover various aspects of magic, including card tricks, stage illusions, mentalism, and close-up magic. Experts in the field share their secrets and insights, providing valuable learning opportunities for both aspiring and seasoned magicians. The convention also hosts a large marketplace where attendees can browse and purchase the latest magic props, books, and DVDs. It is a haven for magic collectors and enthusiasts to explore a wide range of magical paraphernalia. The marketplace is bustling with activity, and magicians can find unique and rare items that are not easily available elsewhere. Blackpool itself adds to the magic of the convention. The town's lively atmosphere, stunning coastline, and iconic landmarks create an enchanting backdrop for the event. Additionally, Blackpool is home to the famous Blackpool Tower, which houses a permanent magic museum that showcases the history of magic and features interactive exhibits. Overall, the Blackpool Magic Convention is an immersive and captivating experience for magic lovers. It offers a unique opportunity to witness world-class performances, learn from the best in the field, and connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for magic. The convention's legacy and contribution to the world of magic make Blackpool a magical destination that continues to enchant and inspire..

Reviews for "Blackpool's Magical Circus: The Acrobats, Illusionists, and Performers Who Wow Crowds"

1. Michael - 1/5: I was highly disappointed by Blackpool Magic. The performances were lackluster, and the tricks were predictable and unimpressive. It felt like a cheap magic show you could find at a local fair, not something that was worth the ticket price. I was expecting a mesmerizing and awe-inspiring evening, but instead, I left feeling underwhelmed and regretful of my decision to attend.
2. Sarah - 2/5: Blackpool Magic was a letdown for me. The magician's tricks were nothing extraordinary; I could easily figure out how most of them were done. The overall production lacked creativity and originality, and it seemed like a rehashed version of every other magic show. The atmosphere was also quite disappointing, with a lack of excitement and energy in the audience. I won't be recommending this show to anyone looking for a truly mind-blowing magical experience.
3. David - 2/5: I expected more from Blackpool Magic, considering the hype surrounding it. However, the show fell short of my expectations. The performances were average at best, with most tricks being quite basic and repetitive. The pacing felt off, and there were lulls in the performance that made it difficult to stay engaged. Overall, Blackpool Magic was a forgettable experience, and I wouldn't recommend it to those seeking an exceptional magical night out.
4. Emily - 3/5: While Blackpool Magic had its moments, it didn't live up to the high praises I had heard. Some of the tricks were impressive, but there were others that felt outdated and overdone. The performers lacked charisma and failed to connect with the audience, which made it difficult to feel fully engaged throughout the show. It was an average magic show, but nothing exceptional or memorable that would make me want to revisit or recommend it to others.
5. Mark - 2/5: For a show called Blackpool Magic, I expected something more grand and mesmerizing. Unfortunately, the performances were mediocre at best, and the illusions were easily decipherable. The lack of creativity and innovative tricks left me feeling disappointed and unimpressed. I would have been better off spending my money elsewhere for a more captivating and awe-inspiring magical experience.
