I recently came across a VHS tape that contained a rather peculiar and eerie film. The film depicted a witch with a head that could fly independently of her body. It was a bizarre sight to behold, as her body remained stationary while her disembodied head soared through the air. The VHS tape had a worn and aged appearance, giving it an aura of mystery. I couldn't resist the temptation to see what this strange film contained. As I played the tape, an array of crackling noises and static filled the screen, adding to the unsettling ambiance.

Look out for the hand-carved wooden sign painted in brown and tan reading La aloa Bay Beach Park , which is visible from the road and located next to the park s restroom and shower facilities. In fact, this serene stretch of sandy Kona coastline is often ranked among the best beaches on Big Island for boogie boarding, and in the past has hosted the Magic Sands Body Surfing Championship the only event of its kind on the entire island.

As I played the tape, an array of crackling noises and static filled the screen, adding to the unsettling ambiance. The film commenced with a dimly lit forest, where the witch's body was seen standing motionless. Then, to my astonishment, her head detached itself and started to float upward.

Magic Sands Beach

Locals have a few names for this little beach cove. Some refer to it as White Sands Beach Park while others call it Disappearing Sands. But each of these names refers to the disappearing magic white sands of the beach. Each winter, the powerful waves erode the beach to leave a rocky shoreline, but you can still find the soft white sand if you wade out into the water.

The swimming conditions are usually quite good at this popular little spot just south of Kona Town. You’ll find plenty of locals and tourists swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding and surfing here. You might even see a few divers come in from the deep during your stay on the disappearing sands.

Magic Sands Beach has a short shorebreak which creates powerful waves when the surf is up. That’s when you’ll find crowds lining the white sands to watch the city’s best surfers challenge the waves. When the surf is low, you’ll find world-class snorkeling at the south end of La’aloa Bay. Colorful coral and interesting topography lines the bay, and it’s all waiting for you to discover just off Magic Sands Beach.

The sand may also disappear on you during the day. The tide can reach up all the way to the back end of the beach where the sand meets the road. The waves pull the sand out into the bay at high tide, and then return the sand as the waves lap up over the rocks as the tide draws out. This keeps the sand incredibly clean and impeccably white. Hence the name White Sands Beach Park.

You’ll have to fight the crowds at this popular little spot. There’s not much sand to go around, even at low tide, so you’re best bet is to arrive early to throw down your blanket. You’ll just have to keep an eye on that blanket as the sand disappears.

Drive on Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 11) south out of Kona Town to get to this popular strip of magic sand. Four miles south of town, turn right onto La’aloa Avenue and continue until you hit Ali’i Drive. Turn right and you’ll see the beach park’s parking lot, bathrooms, picnic tables, lifeguard tower and showers.

It seemed as though her head possessed a mind of its own as it effortlessly weaved through the trees and bushes. The head, although detached, appeared to maintain a connection to the witch's body. It seemed to have a life of its own, moving purposefully and with determination. The witch's eyes, fixed on an unknown destination, were filled with an intense glimmer, one that emitted both power and malice. As the head continued its flight, it encountered various obstacles, such as branches and leaves. However, the head passed through them effortlessly, as if it were intangible. It was a strangely terrifying sight, observing a head flying around with such ease. The film also captured the head's encounters with woodland creatures. Birds, upon seeing the floating head, squawked and flew away in fear, while squirrels scurried up trees in an attempt to escape its presence. Even the animals knew that this witch's head was no ordinary sight. The witch's head eventually reached a clearing within the forest. It hovered above what appeared to be a seemingly ancient stone altar, covered in moss and overgrown with ivy. A beam of moonlight broke through the dense forest canopy and illuminated the head, casting an otherworldly glow upon it. Suddenly, the head began to emit a soft, eerie chanting. The sound echoed through the trees, resonating within my own ears. In an instant, a vortex of wind and energy formed around the witch's head, swirling and spiraling with great intensity. The film abruptly ended at this point, leaving me with an array of unanswered questions. Who was this witch? What were her intentions? What was the significance of her flying head? It was an enigmatic and perplexing experience, one that made me ponder the existence of the supernatural. The VHS tape remains a fascinating artifact, offering a glimpse into the realm of the mystical. It serves as a reminder that there are unseen forces at play, lurking in the shadows, ready to captivate our imaginations and challenge our understanding of the world around us..
