In Along an African Border, anthropologist Sónia Silva examines how Angolan refugees living in Zambia use these divination baskets to cope with daily life in a new land. Silva documents the special processes involved in weaving the baskets and transforming them into oracles. She speaks with diviners who make their living interpreting lipele messages and speaks also with their knowledge-seeking clients. To the Luvale, these baskets are capable of thinking, hearing, judging, and responding. They communicate by means of jipelo articles drawn in configurations, interact with persons and other objects, punish wrongdoers, assist people in need, and, much like humans, go through a life course that is marked with an initiation ceremony and a special burial. The lipele functions in a state between object and person.

Calundu was an African-derived religious practice known in colonial Brazil, most widely recognized in Minas Gerais during and following that region’s early eighteenth-century gold rush. Drumming, chant, and dance channeled healing and divinational powers brought about primarily through trance possession. Severely disrupted by Church intervention, descriptions of calundu found in Portuguese Inquisition testimony join the published observations by European travelers as windows into the social history of Minas Gerais, an important yet often overlooked cultural territory of Brazil. This region of gold, diamonds, and coffee formed one of the most intense, highly populated slave operations known in the Western Hemisphere. Calundu’s practitioners, its musical worlds and social spaces, promote the parallelism argument that contrasts theories of syncretism and creolization. Calundu’s fatal narrative as an independent system of thought paralleling Catholicism forms a chapter in the African Diaspora’s vital history.

Reviews for "The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Squeeze Mop: a must-have tool for busy households."

- Jessica - 2/5 stars - I was really excited to try out the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Squeeze Mop, but I was ultimately disappointed with the results. The mop head was difficult to attach and it didn't stay securely in place while I was cleaning. Additionally, I found that the Magic Eraser pads got dirty very quickly and didn't last very long before needing to be replaced. I also had a hard time finding replacement pads at my local store. Overall, I think there are better options available on the market that are more durable and easier to use.
- Ryan - 1/5 stars - I was extremely dissatisfied with the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Squeeze Mop. The squeeze mechanism broke after just a few uses, making it impossible to get any liquid onto the mop head. On top of that, the mop head itself was not very effective at cleaning. It left streaks and didn't pick up dirt and grime as well as I expected. I would not recommend this mop to anyone and would instead suggest looking for a more reliable and efficient option.
- Emily - 2/5 stars - I had high hopes for the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Squeeze Mop, but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The mop head was difficult to maneuver, especially in tighter spaces, and I found it to be quite bulky and awkward to use. The Magic Eraser pads did a decent job of removing stains, but they wore out quickly and were not very cost-effective to replace. Overall, I think there are better mops available that offer more convenience and better performance.
